Higgler gunned down at Central Village shop

A morning stop at a shop in Central Village, St Catherine, turned deadly yesterday when a 58-year-old higgler was ambushed and shot dead by two gunmen.

Dead is Ivan Robert Smith, otherwise called “Shortman”, of Tate Drive, Central Village.

Reports are that about 10:30 a.m. on August 18, Smith was standing at a shop in the community when he was reportedly pounced upon by two men armed with guns.

The gunmen allegedly opened fire, hitting Smith in the upper section of his body.

Residents reportedly summoned the police, and when lawmen arrived, Smith was found lying on his back in a pool of blood.

The scene was processed by investigators and Smith was taken to the Spanish Town General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The motive for the killing has not been established.

The Central Village Criminal Investigation Branch is probing the murder and is searching for the two gunmen.
