Barber caught on camera stealing $30,000 bicycle

A Hanover barber is heading to court after allegedly being caught on CCTV making off with a bicycle that had been parked outside a shop in Green Island.

Romaine Kelly, 29, of March Town, Hanover, has been charged with simple larceny following the reported theft on Saturday, August 15.

Reports from the Green Island police are that about 3:00 a.m., the complainant parked his bicycle, valued at $30,000, beside a shop in front of his home before going to bed.

When he woke up, however, the bicycle was gone.

The man reportedly searched the surrounding area but came up empty-handed before making a report to the police.

Investigators later reviewed CCTV footage from the shop, which allegedly showed Kelly taking the bicycle at about 6:00 a.m.

The footage, along with a statement implicating Kelly, reportedly led to his arrest and subsequent charge on Monday, August 17.

Kelly is scheduled to appear in the Lucea Parish Court on Wednesday, September 2.
