Jamalco clinging to hope of survival

Jamalco coach Vassel Reynolds said he has made a verbal commitment to rescue the Red Stripe Premier League team from relegation.

The Clarendon outfit are clinging to a mathematical chance of survival, with two games remaining in the preliminary stage.

They face a do-or-die situation in their penultimate fixture against mid-table team Harbour View at the Wembley Centre of Excellence playing field in Clarendon next Wednesday.

"We know that the game against Harbour View is crucial to our hope of survival. I have a verbal commitment to rescue the team from relegation. The only focus is on survival," Reynolds, who was brought in last month with a mandate to save the club, told STAR Sports yesterday.

Jamalco are sitting in eleventh position on 29 points, just one ahead of last placed Maverley-Hughenden. More, importantly, the Jamalco team need to surpass Boys' Town, who are on 32 points to remain in the nation's elite league next season. Waterhouse are in ninth on 34 points.

With that scenario, Jamalco need maximum points at this stage to keep alive their slim survival hope. Technical director of Jamalco, Vassel Reynolds, is fully aware that his team must win against Harbour View.

"It's failing. What we want is a reality chance going into the final preliminary-round fixture. Mathematically, we need six points from two games. That could keep us up for next season," Reynolds said.
