Constable accused of raping woman he met through TikTok granted bail

July 14, 2026

A police constable accused of abducting and raping a woman he met on TikTok has been granted $500,000 bail after his attorney argued in court that the sexual encounter was consensual.

The 23-year-old officer, whose name is being withheld, was offered bail when he appeared in the St Catherine Parish Court on Tuesday.

He faces charges of rape and abduction and was granted bail with strict reporting conditions following a successful application by King's Counsel Peter Champagnie.

During the hearing, Champagnie argued that the sexual encounter was consensual.

He also pointed to WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between the complainant and the constable shortly after the alleged incident, submitting that they raised reasonable questions about the woman's claims of rape and abduction.

According to the prosecution, the 25-year-old complainant met the constable on TikTok in October 2025.

The pair reportedly communicated regularly before arranging to meet in Half-Way Tree, Kingston, on November 29.

Prosecutors allege that the constable agreed to take the woman to her home in St Catherine but instead diverted to a nearby car wash, where he had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.

The matter was later reported to the police, and the constable was charged following a ruling by the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The case is scheduled to return to court on September 22.
