Taxi man fatally hits woman, sends her through ackee tree
A taxi operator has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a crash in Spanish Town last week that left a woman dead.
The deceased has been identified as 54-year-old Janet Wilson, an unemployed resident of Jobs Lane in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Charged is Shelton Johnson.
Reports are that about 3:02 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, Wilson was walking along Young Street with another woman when both were hit by a speeding 2019 AD Wagon motorcar driven by Johnson.
The impact reportedly flung Wilson more than 12 metres, sending her through an ackee tree, a zinc fence, and into a nearby premises.
The vehicle later crashed into a concrete wall and a parked Mazda Premacy.
Wilson and several injured passengers from the vehicle were taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The others were treated for their injuries.
Johnson was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and was later charged following a question-and-answer session on Monday.
He is scheduled to appear before the St Catherine Parish Court on Friday.
