Molynes U’s Jacisera Park venue near completion
As the uncertainty regarding the start of the 2020-2021 domestic football season continues to linger, Molynes United are using the period of inactivity to make improvements to their home ground at Jacisera Park.
Club president Herman Cruickshank believes that the current global health crisis will force organisers to make adjustments to this season's Red Stripe Premier League, and for the long term it is crucial that they have a venue that meets the required standards.
According to Cruickshank, the venue is near completion. They still need to build another set of stands, and the sanding of the field has to be completed.
"We are using the opportunity to get the venue up to date, so we are here preparing the venue and sometime this month we are to get some stands. Our member of parliament put in a first set of stands and we have a set on the wharf just to be cleared. By the end of this week we should know exactly the direction we are going, and by the end of September we hope to get a clear picture of where we are," he said.
Safety protocol
He added that he suspects the league might be played under strict COVID-19 safety protocol when it starts, and the organisers may have to make alterations to how games are hosted.
He noted that Molynes have maintained a core of players from last season and they have kept in touch with them and offered support where possible. But even though the club intends to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season, they will not be committing themselves to any player until the unpredictability caused by the coronavirus has passed.
"We are going to strengthen some core areas based on the coach's recommendation. We have our eyes on a few players but we won't say anything because nobody wants to pin down anybody until they are sure what is going on. But we keep a core and we check on them and send 'a little thing' for them every now and again to keep them afloat because we have to try to keep our players," he added.
