Farmers held after killing cows without proper licence

December 09, 2025

Police officers assigned to the Area Five Agricultural Protection Branch swooped down on a farm in Angels, St Catherine yesterday afternoon and arrested three men accused of butchering animals without the proper documents.

Reports are that around 2:40 p.m., the team was on patrol when they noticed smoke rising from a section of the property. When they checked, a group of shirtless men was seen cutting up the carcasses of animals on the spot.

Further inspection showed that the carcasses were from two cows that had been slaughtered on the farm. The police asked for butcher licences, tags and other required documents, but were told none existed.

The St Catherine Health Department was contacted, and public health workers went to the scene to assess the conditions under which the meat was being prepared for public use. The carcasses were later seized and condemned by the department.

Investigations are ongoing.
